Online Research

Efficient and effective use of the Internet is becoming an increasingly important Library Literacy skill. Students tend to confuse Internet browsing for research. Research implies a deliberate search for specific information. Simply locating web pages on one's topic is not research.

One of the primary causes of wasted research time is the failure of the student to create a list of research questions before going online. Creating specific questions in advance helps to focus one's search and helps you know when your search is complete. Merely browsing the internet on a general topic can use up a lot of time unproductively.
